It was probably about 10 years ago that I found this promo sampler CD in some dusty pawn shop. I couldn't afford to buy the Stax Singles box set, so finding this was a thrill. Since that time, I've never seen another copy of this floating around. There are some real doozies on here, from The Mar-Keys, Albert King, Johnnie Taylor and Mable John to Sam & Dave, Otis Redding and Eddie Floyd. The front of the promo CD reads, "This promotional sampler is culled from "THE COMPLETE STAX VOLT SINGLES: 1959-1968," a nine-CD, 244-track boxed set. The collection contains all of the single a-sides released by the Stax and Volt labels between 1948 and 1968 as well as some of the most significant b-sides. "THE COMPLETE STAX VOLT SINGLES: 1959-1968" was digitally remastered from the original mono masters by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch."
