Southern California: Compilations and Labels

Southern California: Compilations and Labels
Over at Collector Scum there is a pretty comprehensive list of So Cal compilation LPs from the 80's. Check it out! I'll be looking to dig up some old comp LPs to post on here.

Also will be trying to dig up from somewhere Mood of Defiance. As for Estradasphere, I don't post DVDs here but you can try a blog aggregator and thanks for your requests!

SHRIMP BOAT Duende 1992

After many years, I dug out my Shrimp Boat "Small Wonder" 7 inch record I'd gotten long ago at Vinyl Fever in Tallahassee and played it again. I'd forgotten just how creative and talented a band Shrimp Boat was besides the fact that their music was catchy and made for great driving music. So for you to hear is Duende, their second release on Bar/None Records. Here's what Bar/None website had to say about Shrimp Boat: "Shrimp Boat: swingin-ass dance band on a bed of melody." I concur.

A side note - when Shrimp Boat sank, Sam Prekop went on to play in the Sea and Cake.

R.L. Burnside - Mississippi Hill Country Blues 2000

Acoustic solo blues by the great Mississippi blues legend, R.L. Burnside, recorded from 1980 - 1982. I really got buzzed when I heard "Come On In" but hearing him with just his acoustic guitar and slide is good for any lazy Sunday morning with a cup of hot coffee on the front porch, sitting in your rocking chair.

Rest in peace, Mr. Burnside!
